Last Chance to Back The Dungeons of the Dread Wyrm!
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 18, 2018 at 05:56:12 PM

Greetings Delvers!

The final 24 hours of the Kickstarter for “The Dungeons of the Dread Wyrm” is underway now. This adventure is made for fans who love classic RPG modules.

Rumors hint that below a barren crag in a forlorn range of hills lies the lair of the great dread wyrm, Felmurnuzza. This dragon has mercilessly tormented, terrorized, and plundered the nearby civilized lands for hundreds of years. However, no one has seen her for many decades. Nonetheless, these kingdoms continue to pay the fell serpent tribute out of fear. Many now say that she sleeps that sleep of death — her legendary fabulous hoard unprotected and ripe for the taking. Of course, if the rumors of her death are not true, a grim death surely awaits those that seek to discover her treasures.

I love what Ray is doing with this series. I have The Tower of the Black Sorcerers and can’t wait to see what’s inside his second module. He has also employed some amazing artists to help bring the Old School feel! From legend Russ Nicholson to new heroes like Bradley K McDevitt, the artwork really makes this a treasure!

I also think it’s great to find good uses for dragons...

Darcy Perry

Making Time... A Knight to Remember?
over 5 years ago – Fri, Aug 17, 2018 at 01:35:46 PM

Greetings Delvers!

In the middle of most Kickstarter campaigns there is a lull, where it sits as idle as a painted ship, upon a painted ocean. I call it "The Crawl". The heavy pledge action happens at the beginning and end of a Kickstarter. This can cause anxiety!

To keep my mind off this, I have been back at the sculpting table, working on new sculpts to add to the pledge rewards. Here are work in progress shots of Dame Nika, the iconic cover girl for Bladestorm! 2nd ed...

WIP Photos: Dame Nika from Bladestorm!
WIP Photos: Dame Nika from Bladestorm!

I am considering opening up the custom sculpt reward pledge level from previous Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom campaigns for Law Vs Chaos but with a one (or two at most) week window for sculpting, it would be tight. I also know it's become common on a Star Hat Miniatures Kickstarter for folks to simply shout out demands for what they want :) It's a tavern-like atmosphere around here and hey, folks get excited. I don't mind as long as you're polite.

As you can see from the WIP photo of Dame Nika, I sculpt by hand (alas, I have no magic pixies to do this for me). This requires time and focus to get the best results. As a family man and music teacher, this means I usually sculpt at night. So I would have to make time because there are only have two weeks until the greens need to be all cast in metal... however, would you be interested in your favourite character joining in the battle of Law Vs Chaos?

Are you a Legendary Hero?
Are you a Legendary Hero?

The Legendary Hero reward is not a cheap pledge but it's a fair price for a custom sculpt - and you gain immortality for your character as part of the Star Hat range of miniatures. You would also receive all the miniatures from this Kickstarter campaign, including The Black Dragon (when funding reaches 100 backers). Comment below if this option interests you.

If there is some genuine interest, I will put it on the campaign page as one of the reward options. Otherwise, please continue to spread the word about Law Vs Chaos. I hope you are enjoying your evening. The next round is on me!

Blessings,

Darcy Perry

Introducing the Casters: Effin Cool Miniatures
over 5 years ago – Thu, Aug 16, 2018 at 11:42:30 AM

Greetings Delvers!

We have 3 casters (sorry 4 but that's another story) involved in this campaign. In the last update I introduced you to Chris Nicholls from Macrocosm. Now we fly from Gloucestershire (UK) to Ohio (US) to meet...

John Popson and Hopie.
John Popson and Hopie.

...John Popson, who created Effincool Miniatures to make... well the name says it all?!

Seriously though, I asked John a few questions about how he started, his love for miniatures and other stuff:

Effincool was born out of a love of miniatures that stems back to my early days of playing Dungeons and Dragons in 1979. My best friend's older brother was our DM and he was a jerk, but he got us going in the right direction. He has a bunch of minis and I was always drawn to them. I did some casting in the 90's and learned a bit about mold making, but then put that all aside for graduate school. After school, I opened a seasonal restaurant, which left a lot of free time in the winters. That is where and when Effincool was born, out of a surplus of money and a lot of free time. As my good friend James M Ward has told me, "To make a million dollars in the gaming world, you must spend 2 million!"

For some, John, you are living the dream?

Am I living the dream? Maybe for some. Mostly I am living a life of a lot of hard work and labors of love, but it is because I do love it, that I keep on going with it. Someone else told me you never retire from a job you love.

If you could star in any TV series from your childhood, what would it be?

Tough call, but I would have to say Thundarr the Barbarian.

You own a restaurant, so what would you serve up if I came over for dinner?

Also a tough one Darcy, because I don't really know you all that well. You might be a vegan for all I know. :-D I would probably try to get you to eat a steak because I grill a mean steak. But I hear NZ beef is nothing to trifle with, so that might be tough. When Anton Ducrot came over to the states last year to stay with me for 2 weeks, we mostly just ate a lot of chickens!!

Oh, well that's easy John - steak (rare) on the BBQ for me! Here's an easier question to end with: Four wheels or two?

In a perfect world, both. The motorcycle still sadly sits in the shop unfinished. A true labor of labor. The better question for me is 6 cylinders or 5?

Perhaps the better question, John, is why do we have a photo of you and your dog Hopie, when Mr Joffery Binx (the pillow painter) and Dexter say you're a cat man!

;)

...

So there you have it, another insight into the world of miniatures! Keep tuning in to these Updates to find out more about the people bringing you Law Vs Chaos!

Oh, be sure to check out John's latest range of Effin Cool Minis here:

Star Hat Miniatures Review by Deamons at Work
over 5 years ago – Wed, Aug 15, 2018 at 09:05:00 PM

Greetings Delvers!

Alex from Deamons at Work (DAW) has posted a review with some miniatures from the Star Hat Miniatures range. It gives you an idea of what you're backing in this campaign. I think Alex has nailed it. My whole vision for creating miniatures (and sharing them with you) is all about Old School COOL!

Than you for helping me make little things that bring big grins!

Blessings,

Darcy Perry
