Greetings Delvers!

I am very excited to share with you something completely different! The Gates of Doom! This is my first terrain build for Star Hat Miniatures! It is rather large and will be cast in high quality resin. I am really happy with the way this is going! I have plans for the double doors - they will look fantastic!

4 Days left! A Gift from Grant Stone!
over 5 years ago – Sun, Aug 26, 2018 at 06:07:32 PM

Greeting Delvers!

The Empire is destroyed. The army of Eduk Mort Kai stands at the gates of the capital Korfur. All is lost, unless a dark secret can be prised from the mind of an exiled king.

Grant Stone's stories have appeared in Island, Shimmer, Strange Horizons, and have twice won the Sir Julius Vogel Award. His Novella The Last and Collection Everything is Fine are available at amazon.com

Star Hat owes it's name to Grant Stone and our gaming sessions. As a DM, I would often introduce Wizards with stars on their hats. I have a habit of painting them on my wizard miniatures too. From this, Grant came up with Star Hat University. A few characters from Star Hat University have become miniatures also. Like the humble janitor, Murray.

Grant has generously offered one of his short stories to backers of Law Vs Chaos! This will be a gift for everyone backing this Kickstarter campaign - even the Watchers!

Here is an excerpt:

It was Tuppy, the Rook's boy, who saw land first. Mist hung fast around the ship; Tuppy's arm stretching out from the crow's nest had no more substance than a ghost.

“Hai,” he called from far above my head.

The sailor next to me gripped his head in his hands. Shouts arose. Then, almost at once, the deck was full of soldiers. The Kingsmen had kept an uneasy peace with the sailors for the past week, staying below decks as much as possible. Now they formed a line along the side of the ship. I saw one sailor make a move for the knife in his belt. One of the King's men shook his head; the sailor's hand moved away.

“Hold!”

General Coyle's voice bellowed from below. Then silence, broken only by the sound of Coyle's boots on the ladder. He appeared, his scarred face looking calmly at the assembled men. A few moments later Captain Leven —a salt of the oldest sort—emerged to stand beside him.

“You know where we are.” Leven's voice was hushed like shingle beneath a retreating wave. “Some of you, I know, have suspected our destination for some time.”

“What right do you have?” a lone voice cried out. “You know the sailor's law!”

“Death,” General Coyle yelled. “Or worse, for any sailor who sets foot upon the Isle of Ghosts. Do not worry. I will not ask any seaman to leave the ship.” He removed a letter from his jacket. Though it was doubtful many of the sailors could read, all would know the King's seal. “And we are here with full permission of the king.”

A murmur arose from the crowd. “However,” Coyle continued, “You are to know nothing more. Your eyes and ears will be covered until our task here is complete.”

The soldiers produced wax-soaked bandages and crossed the deck. Most of the crew, I noted with surprise, did not protest. One however, a small man with a face covered in tattoos, broke away. “It will be death for us,” he yelled, as he tried to escape by climbing up the rigging, “It will be death!” A solider pulled him roughly down to the deck.

In less than a minute the crew stood, ears and eyes stoppered, clustered in a corner of the deck like an assemblage of lepers. Coyle nodded at the captain, then bound the man's senses himself. Only after this was complete did he turn to me...

Thank you for your encouragement and support. It's the last week and I hope to see Gary's Black Dragon flying before the end of it!

Blessings,

Darcy Perry

Podcast: Tenkar's Tavern Live Interview
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 25, 2018 at 02:01:57 AM

Greetings Delvers!

I have known Erik for a few years now. I have also sculpted a miniature of his fabled dwarf Tenkar Calishun for a previous Kickstarter! If you can spare an hour, it may be enjoyable as background noise; perhaps while you paint miniatures, draw maps or prepare for your next gaming session?

"In this episode, I have a (virtual) fireside chat with Darcy Perry of Star Hat Miniatures. Darcy is the sculptor of the official Tenkar miniature. The episode runs 57 minutes and was recorded in front of a live audience with questions and comments via text chat."

Yes, there is some swearing and plenty of name dropping, plus an insight into why I do what I do and the impact it has had. It's a bit of a ramble but with plenty of gold in there. A real pleasure to chat with Erik, aka Tenkar, with some of my secrets revealed!!!

I will be posting soon with the next surprise for backers... until then, enjoy your gaming!

Blessings,

Darcy Perry
